Fillet Weld Strength Calculator
Welding Strength Calculator
This tool helps you estimate the strength of a single transverse fillet weld joint based on essential parameters such as weld length, size, and maximum permissible tensile stress.
How It Works
To use the calculator, you need to input the following values:
- Length of the weld (l): The total length of the weld in millimeters.
- Size of weld (s): The size (thickness) of the weld in millimeters.
- Maximum permissible tensile stress (σt): The tensile stress in megapascals (MPa) that the weld can withstand (usually equal to the strength of Welding Consumables).
Calculation Formula
The strength of the weld is calculated using the formula:
- P=0.707×s×l×σt
Where:
- P = Strength of the weld in kilonewtons (kN)
- s = Size of the weld in mm
- l = Length of the weld in mm
- σt = Maximum permissible tensile stress in MPa
Example Calculation
Let’s consider a new example:
- Weld Type: Transverse fillet weld (single)
- Length of the weld (l): 150 mm
- Size of weld (s): 6 mm
- Maximum permissible tensile stress (σt): 80 MPa
Using the formula:
- P = 0.707 x 6 x 150 x 80
Calculating step-by-step:
- 0.707×6=4.24
- 4.242×150=636.3
- 636.3×80=50880
Now, convert to kilonewtons (kN):
- P = 50880/1000
- P = 50.88 kN
Result
For this example, the estimated strength of the single transverse fillet weld joint is 50.880 kN.
